Project rolling out the MIG across NHS Dumfries & Galloway shortlisted for Industry Collaboration Award
Our project with NHS Dumfries and Galloway rolling out the Medical Interoperability Gateway (MIG) in Scotland for the first time has been shortlisted in the Industry Collaboration category for Holyrood’s Digital Health and Care Awards.
The Industry Collaboration Award highlights partnerships between innovative private sector vendors and the public sector, and the crucial role they play in achieving wide scale transformation of health and social care services. The award recognises a supplier that has demonstrated effective collaboration with a public or third sector client to deliver a successful digital transformation project.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway completed a pilot project with Healthcare Gateway, becoming the first in Scotland to roll out the Medical Interoperability Gateway (MIG) and connecting 31 GP practices across the region providing clinicians with real-time access to patient data, supporting faster and safer care.
The benefits seen by clinicians accessing rich primary care data have been invaluable. Comprehensive patient information being available at the point of care means clinicians no longer have to spend time calling GP surgeries and trying to fill in the gaps. Accessing real-time data ensures that clinical decisions are based on current information, improving clinical safety and coordination of care.
“The patients often find it difficult to remember this information. I would. Previously we had to phone the GP surgery and the receptionists were extremely helpful, but it was time consuming for them and us. Having access to this information is vital when we are thinking about escalating treatment. This has really helped us to deliver more patient centred and safe care.”
The second phase of the project was to enable views of comprehensive MIG data in Cambric’s Morse EPR solution, which provides secure mobile records to healthcare professionals who are working in the community or away from their normal place of work.
The MIG is making vital real-time information available to a wide range of NHS end users across NHS Dumfries & Galloway to provide integrated care for patients. To find out more about this project, read our news story here.
The Digital Health and Care Awards ceremony will be held on the evening of 21 February 2023. To find out more about the awards and read a list of shortlisted nominees, visit the Holyrood websitehere.
